Nuts About ? Blog Hop

Welcome to the first day of our "Nuts About ?" blog hop.
With a name like that, who wouldn't want to participate.
We all have something we are nuts about. Most of us quilters are just "goobers" to start off with!
;-)

Marian must have tapped into that idea, to come up with this great hop.
A big thanks to you Marian for bringing us all together again.
I do hope, that you all sit down "almond" us and enjoy.

Hot off the longarm... my
Allietare 2015

I  "pecan" a fan of Bonnie Hunter, long ago. I love her style, the way she can use up the tiniest scrap of fabrics, or the most hideous piece in the stash... you know, that one you can't bear to throw away.
Lord knows, I have plenty of them.
LOL!!

There is something about putting the petal to the metal, as they say, and just chain stitching to your hearts content. Many think I am a bit "walnuts" with it all, and it's a "title" I hold dear to my heart!

Now I must admit, I am no fan of mystery quilts.  It's not that I don't like them but, I am one who want to know just what I am getting into. I tend to save up all the clues and start it once it's all been revealed.
This year was a bit different. I went "pistachio" and thru caution to the wind, although I did go with the colors that Bonnie picked out.

Below are the past few years of my Bonnie,
mystery quilts that I have completed.
Well, sorta...
That quilting fairy hasn't seemed to get them all quilted just yet.
Darn her!
:-)

 Grand Illusion 2014

Celtic Solstice 2013
The last time I decided to be a rebel, I went with colors I loved.  We have a "Bonnie Hunter" club here in Denver and our fearless leader told me I needed more contrast. She spent endless time with me and the color wheel. Did I listen to her???  Oh "cashew" no!  After all, I knew my colors looked fabulous together. Well as you can see, Celtic Solstice just doesn't have that punch that it needs. It's my "if only" quilt. If only I would learn to listen.  Rules, so many rules!
LOL!!

Easy Street 2012

Orca Bay 2011
This biggie is 3 times the size of the original pattern, and to this day
holds the title of my all time favorite quilt.
Could it be that Orca border I added???
;-)

Carolina Christmas 2010

So I guess I can wrap this up, by saying I'm just "NUTS"
over scrappy quilts.
The stash busting, the chain piecing, (unless of course I've run out of bobbin! Don't ask me how I know about that! :-)  "Scrap quilts" are the roots of quilting, and they are just...well, the mixed nuts of life that drive me!

I hope you've enjoyed my little trip down the piecing road. If your new to Bonnie Hunter, you can find it at Quiltville.com
She hosts a mystery quilt once a year at Thanksgiving time. It's on her site for a few months, then is published in her next book.
Shes got loads of fabulous free patterns on her site to peruse!
She also has a great blog at

We have some great sponsors today, so you won't want to miss this chance to enter the give-a-way.

A big round of applause for the Fat Quarter Shop

Also to "Any Pattern.com" for this fabulous Daffodil pattern.
Both are linked for you.

Be sure to stop by and visit my fellow bloggers and see what drives them NUTS!

  1. I, too, have an "if only" from one of Bonnie's mysteries. Yours look wonderful, though! Beth @ Words & Stitches (pbstrand@msn.com)

  2. I don't do mysteries either, I'd hate to put in all that work only to find at the end that I don't like the pattern. Your Celtic Solstice looks brilliant to me.

  5. Your quilts are beautiful! I love to visit blog hops and hopefully it will give me inspiration to get into my sewing room and my scraps and fabrics. I only make small projects, but it has been som while since I did anything.

  6. You are nuts in a great way! Beautiful quilts, I have made two of them.

  8. I LOVE your Nuttiness, and you are seriously crazy if you think Celtic Solstice is a fail.. OMG...I love love love those colors together.. Their isn't a quilt on this post that isn't wonderful tho. I to feel the same about Mystery Quilts, I wouldn't mind so much if they showed us the end result first at least I could warm up my fabrics prior to doing it.. The mystery to me is in what we'll be doing next.. I won't touch a mystery quilt either tho until the block is revealed, because I just like to use colors where I want or think they should be and I would be extremely upset if lets say I made a penguin, and a purple ended up in the face. I just couldn't do it. :) I won't even risk it.. I'm that stuck in my ways. :)

Thank you for participating in Nuts About, I love that your here with us.

How are you feeling? Thinking of you.

  20. I love BH, too. Adjusted my scrap user's system from her wonderful insight. I've done half of her mystery quilts. This is just a beautiful display of them and cheers to you for completing each one. Hope you are healing and resting.

  21. I personally think that your Celtic Solstice is absolutely amazing. The dark purple pops the "circular" pattern, and the pink pops in the other blocks. I wouldn't have changed anything on it. The other quilts are gorgeous too, I have some of my Bonnie's finished, and others not so much...pretty pattern as well.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I still haven't finished my Bonnie Hunter quilt:(

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think your colors are wonderful on Celtic! I too like the mysteries but...... You never know right?
I thought grand illusion had the colors of a carvel cake. When I was done I went to show my husband and he turned on our living room lights which had new LED bulbs. The quilt was blinding! Like neon lights.
So perhaps just go with your instincts and use your colors if your not sure of hers.

  30. My first and only mystery quilt was Bonnie's in 2009! I have done a few other of her quilts and even went to one of her workshops - that was really fun! I love her quilts and have one more in my UFO list.

  31. My first Bonnie Hunter quilt was Easy Street. I gave it to one of my daughters and it is their favorite quilt. I have Grand Illusion to a flimsy and work on Allietaire. Love your quilts, and Celtic Solstice is still nice.

  42. When I saw this blog hop, I was thinking of you...you are certainly "walnuts" which fits right in. Loved seeing all those scrappy Bonnie quilts. I have started Celtic Solstice - it's not even a top...yet. Our guild was lucky enough to have Bonnie come last year and I have the Texas Tumbleweeds top nearly done. Thanks for all the nutty sentences. You are a hoot.

  43. Joan, I didn't expect to 'see' you today--hope you're healing well. Your Celtic is gorgeous, as are all of your Bonnie Quilts. Orca Bay blows me away--stunning! I don't like all of my results from Mysteries (due to fabric choices) and usually save all the steps and then see 1) if I want to make it and 2) pick my fabrics! I dearly love Bonnie quilts, thanks for the eye candy!

  44. My sister would go nutso over those orcas. Perhaps I should drop her a hint or two (or ten) to make something like that too! :-) The quilts are beautiful - even your if only quilt.
