She Who Sews blog hop

I don't know about you, but when I saw this line of fabric from Quilting Treasures,
my heart skipped a beat!
Yes, it was hard to find, but well worth the search for sure!
I seem to be in an "old as new" frame of mind recently.
Maybe it's those dreams of making this old body new again!
But I realized that ship has sailed!
LOL!!

So next is best.

I've long be captivated by these dish washing tab containers from bulk food places like Costco and Sam's Club.
They are such great containers...
and a nice size for a little trash can in my sewing room!

A perfect place to show off those adorable ladies!

Did Madame Samm not just announce a ruffle blog hop recently?
Hey Samm, does this count?
:-)
Oh never mind, I know the answer already!
tee hee!

In the interest of sharing everything, the good the bad and the ugly, I must admit, that once it was done, I was a little disappointed in myself for not backing my piece before putting it on the bucket.
I did not want to line it, since it was a trash can.  It would make it too hard to get all the little strings and things out, but I am not wild about seeing thru it once it was done.
Oh well, I guess I really don't spend a lot of time staring into my trash can anyway!
But it's a good lesson for next time!

Next up was to re-dress a wooden doll that was in my sewing room.

My little pin cushion helper so to say.
These little  2 foot tall girls were the mainstay of my crafting career. I can't begin to tell you how many I made over the years.  All I know is, I curled raffia hair with a curling iron for hours on end and  burned out at least 10 of the darn things over the years!  LOL!

I still had some of this delicious fabric left,
so it was time to take it out of the sewing room.

I love these Professional Totes.
UPDATE:
Here is a link to the pattern from  The Creative Thimble
So many have asked...

So many cool pockets and these great snug up side pockets that are perfect for so many things.
Like water bottles!

I travel with them all the time, and the travel strap on the back slides right over the handle on your luggage. Makes it a breeze to get thru the airport with.

My favorite part of these bags, are all the compartments and zipper pockets.
They are so hard to show once the bag is made...

The photos below show the compartments in the center as your putting it together.

If you have never made one, this looks very strange, I know. Trust me,
when it gets stitched into the side seams it all makes perfect sense.

More pockets

Key clips, and pen pocket

Cell phone or camera holder!
Really they have thought of everything in this bag and it's all secure with zippers and velcro.

WHEW, this post is long! So glad you stuck with me thru it all.
Give a way time.

 Snap tape bags!
Just one more thing I did with this great fabric...
How'd you like to win one of them?
They area a big 14"x17", perfect for all those projects you might need to tote.

Just leave me a comment, and I will be picking 1 winner on Feb 6th.
(sorry, the rest of em have been spoken for)
LOL!!

A big thanks to Madame Samm and Carla, for a fun filled couple of weeks. These are my fellow bloggers anxiously waiting to share their creations with you today. Make sure you drop in and say "hey"!   :-)

  5. Never thought of doing that for a waste basket! It looks great. I don't mind that it is see through at all !!
The bag is wonderful. I do like the idea of all those pockets for all the goodies we carry. Just imagine how much fabric will fit in there when you go shopping?
Love the little snap bags. Lovely way to use little pieces.
Now I had to smile when I saw the doll. here we go again. I think I started teaching doll making in classes about 20 years ago. It worries me as to how many I have made over the years!

  6. You always amaze me with your wonderful creations in each hop! Had to run to the garbage can to retrieve the plastic bucket, lol! Thank you for sharing.

  7. You're killing me with that tote. Incredible. Nice job. Trash can - Did you glue the fabric to the plastic? I love those little tubs too. Your snap bags are adorable. adorable.

  8. You are sew crafty! I love the trash container idea. Now my sewing room trash bucket needs a makeover. Maybe I will "ruffle it up" for that hop ... thanks for the idea. I can be the "other sewing trash can lady" !! Just kidding. I am going to figure out how to ruffle my sewing room trash can, though. Not for the hop. Just 'cause I want one.

No chance I am ever going to become "the other raffia hair curling lady" ... these look adorable, but the work is beyond my skills.

Your professional tote looks very professional ... you could sell these ... not kidding ... :) Pat

  9. What a great idea for a waster basket! I used to buy cat litter is a huge bin and was saving one. One day a friend asked for it for her dog food and I let her have it. How many times I have wished I still had that large bin. Now I buy cat litter in a jug that has a small mouth (comparatively). The whole top was open on the other one. Anyhow, live and learn. I've learned that she wasn't raised to be a giver. I don't need the tub anyway and there's plenty more in this house I could you to bless others, if I would just do it. Of course, I'm always anxious to see what you have to share with us. I think you could at least repost a pic of your trash can on ruffle day, eh? I know you'll have a new spectacular project. The dolly is adorable. I chuckled at your burning up 10 curling irons. Recently I've been going through hair dryers. My hair isn't that long. I guess when my hair was to my waist for years and years, I didn't dry it with a dryer - I just let it air dry and now that I'm old - I use a dryer from time to time. I did find out they overheat and need to cool down, too! Another lesson learned after throwing one away. The tote is magnificent. I'm going to Albuquerque in June for two weeks to be grandma to the two grandboys there. I'm always looking for a great carry on tote. Today I went to the eye doctor (100 mi trip each way - yep, he's a specialist). I didn't know how long it would take with the snow, so I was early. I took some hand stitching with me. I knew I probably wouldn't have to wait long, so I didn't take much and I had plenty. I just put one Grandmother's Flower Garden in the bag and I think I hand pieced in two hexies. The snap bag would be perfect for those. Those 1" hexies can disappear at the drop of a hat. I made an individual design board for a block (Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet's idea) and I use it for them now. I love see all your wonderful projects. As usual, thanks for participating in the hop and inspiring me. I just wish I'd get something finished. I'm working on it, I'm working on it - just not fast enough to suit me.

  48. Love the fabric and the projects you have created from it. Great idea for those containers we seem to accumulate.

  49. Great minds think alike! I love how you took the plastic container and re-purposed it. I recently did that with a plastic round sugar container. I think I felt the need to do it, not just because I needed a caddy for all my pens, pencils, scissors, etc, but the fact that sugar was no longer going to be sold in the paper bag and since I was paying for the plastic anyway, way not put it to good use. Fortunately the company must have done only a limited number since I still see the good old familiar paper sacks in the store. Thanks for sharing your great projects/ideas.

Guess you could line the interior with that old fashioned Fablon if seeing the backside of the fabric really annoys you.
Least its smooth finish would still allow you to pick up the itsy bitsy bits easily still.
The tote is perfect in that fabric too lol a real conversation piece I imagine!!
