October wild life

October is here, and so many have asked...
Will we ever see a moose on this BOM????
It's my month, "sew" let the da moose loose...
Ta-Ta-Ta-Da!!!!!
I "Moose" Go Camping
This big block finishes at 24" x 24"
Pattern $1.50 payable on link below
Remember it's free til the end of the month.
After that, there will be a small charge for it.
Here's closeup of those sweet faces...
A big thanks to Lisa at "Primsy Doodle Designs" for so graciously,
allowing me use her clip art for my block.
It was perfect to bring this forest block, to life.
No glamping here...it's bare bones tent camping for us!
(Well, them anyway, I'm more of a Camper, RV,  or Holiday Inn kinda girl anymore)
Regardless...this wild life is shaping up nicely.
If your like me, your itching to stitch a few of these blocks together now.
Here's "our" layout. If you go with this one, you can sew the left side together.
Probably best to wait though...
:-(
cause there is more "wild" fun to come.

Kick in the Pants

My community never fails to amaze with me,
with how they will come together for you!

When we lost a young member to a car accident...
plans were made.
Last night was a benefit for the family.
Keegan's passions, were his love for the "boots" and Hawaii.
It's a western kinda town, so this quilt design from "Red Boot Quilt Company", seemed to be the perfect choice for a quilt for the auction.
Never in my wildest dreams, did I imagine that it would bring $500 for the family,
as it came straight from my scrap bins!
Oh my goodness, I know it's got a new loving home too.
Thank you to the Ackerman's and everyone who came to support the family.
Your gone way too soon Keegan, but we promise to take care of your family for you!

Starstruck with "Island Batik"

It's in the "Stars" this month with the Island Batik ambassadors.
Our challenge...star quilts.

I've incorporated the "Friendship Star" into my project.
With fall upon us...I just couldn't help,
but think about the gorgeous colors that come with the season.
This 35"x 35" bundle of joy is done with
these "Pumpkin Patch" strips.
I like to keep it real, on my blog.
Not every project is perfect, or a work of art.
I have epic fails just like everyone else, and I'm willing to share.

"Sew" let me tell you...this is a "never will I ever" project!
I saw a photo that inspired this quilt years ago.
Not having any clue what I was getting myself into, I jumped into action.
No directions, no real game plan...
just fly by the seat of my pants and start stitching!
I love the edges, but the lessons I've learned in the process.
(YES, I'm rolling my eyes here)
Having never "pillow cased" a quilt before...
I would not use a heavy duty interfacing on the outer blocks
along with double batting the quilt.
It seemed like such a good plan in my head, when I did it!
Just try to turn it right side out and get it quilted.
It worked great for keeping it's shape on the wall...
BUT...
"Never shall I ever"
I'm going back to binding.
LOL!!
What I can tell you, is I love those "Command Performance" removable hangers.
What a perfect way to hang this guy.
Using split sleeves on the top 3 blocks worked like a charm.

Looks like it's got the "kitty" stamp of approval, too.
"Kenai" seems to think that my office is really her personal space.
A photo shoot without her... ya right!
:-)

Thank you "Island Batik"  for the fabulous fabrics, you provided for this.
I have to admit, being an
is "AWESOME"

You can find these gorgeous fabrics, in your fabric stores now!
What are you waiting for...
fall is calling!

Welcome to My House Blog Hop

I'd love to welcome you to my house...
but I do want to take a few moments to reflect and remember all the
victims of 9/11/01
A day when so many lives were lost, so senselessly.
A day when lives were changed forever.
A day when "security" became a word that is now a part of our everyday life.

I work for the airlines and was front row to what happened.
While I looked out the windows,
all I could see were planes descending from the skies,
landing at the closest airport available. It was surreal.
We had no idea what was happening and were scared to death.

Everyone pitched in to get planes to gates and unloaded,
towed off and parked so more planes could get in.

The tragedy struck in New York, but the entire world dealt with the repercussions.
There were thousands of travelers from all over the globe
stuck for days in places they had no intention of visiting.

It brought out the very best in Americans.
It's true... tragedy makes us stronger...differences are set aside...
we become brothers and sisters.
Something so easy to forget from day to day.
RIP, to all the victims and first responders who have, since passed
from the environmental hazards they suffered, saving so many...

Now, I would like to welcome you to my house with this
"Wild Rose Cottage" quilt.
I saw this on a blog back in 2013, and  fell in love with it.
When I emailed the blogger who shared it, I was sad to learn that the
pattern was no longer available.
It was a "Patchwork Party 2010 online shop, block party pattern.
But, she had actually seen my "International Sunbonnet Sue" quilt
and we did a little swap.  We mailed each other our patterns.
Now that's the way to do things!
This was quite the undertaking. It took Marti Mitchell templates that I didn't have,
but they did provide templates for the blocks in the pattern.
I traced them onto freezer paper and cut out each of the pieces by hand.
Whew...would I do this again...ah that's a big ole NO!
LOL!
I love the finished product...but I did not love the process. I'm a fusible applique girl,
and this was way outside my wheelhouse!
What I did learn though, is that I got amazingly accurate piecing
when the block pieces were cut this way.
Every block came out to the exact size and I was thrilled
that the quilt was perfectly square when I was done.
I guess I should really dust off my GO cutter and those dies I have in the corner.
It would have saved hours and hours of time.
But, I can now say...I did a quilt the hard way!
This entire quilt was made from my stash. I am on a mission this year, to use it or loose it.
And since I'm opposed to loosing anything, I'm using it up.
"Sew" now... what are your thoughts on swapping patterns,
when your done with a project you know your never going to do again?
I like the idea myself. I've got shelves of books and patterns, that will
likely never get used again. What a great way to downsize and share the love too!

This particular pattern, has found it's way to a new home. A friend was up a week ago and just had to have it...even after I gave her the low down on all that freezer paper cutting!
LOL!!  I'm anxious to hear if she uses her "GO"on it.

Thank you Carol for this delightful blog hop.
Nothing is better, than opening our homes to our online quiltin' buddies.
Please visit my fellow bloggers...

July-Aug-Sept Snow Hearts

I know my blogging buddies thought I must have fallen off the face of the earth.
I'm "waaaaaay" behind in my goal of finishing my "Snow Hearts".
But....
July
August
and September are officially done.
Yay!
It's been a crazy summer here, but better late than never, I say.

I noticed that Bunny Hill has posted the first 6 months of  "Snow Hearts"
I've had some inquiries so, get them while they are up!
;-)
A big thanks to my fellow bloggers, who had faith that I would get back on track.
They have done some incredible things with their "Snow Hearts".
Visit them and see for yourselves.

Testing...testing "Patchwork Fabric Folder"

I love when I get the chance to do a little pattern testing.
When Daryl over at "Patchouli Moon Studio",
asked me to test a pattern for this adorable little folder...
I jumped at the chance.
I grabbed up my "Island Batik" fabrics and my new "Accuquilt GO" die,
and off to work I went.
(you know mine, had to have a moose on it)
LOL!!
I have to tell you, I've made fabric folders before...
but this one is special.
This one has a secret ingredient.
No wimpy folders here...it stand up by itself, and gives you a great surface for writing on.
And it's easy to put together.
It even has a spine in it, so it folds so nicely!
Yep, I'm pretty darn captivated with this folder.
It holds a standard 8 1/2" x 11" pad of paper.

Daryl put together a great "free" tutorial on her web site,
 for making a patchwork background
Oh, the sky is the limit with theses backgrounds.
It's put my brain into overdrive! I see lots of opportunity for some fun mini quilts!
;-)
You just have to visit her and see what she's done with her folders.
How about using up an old quilt block.
Labels, lace, buttons, bows, embroideries, photos...
"Sew" many ways of making them your own.
Customizing them would be so much fun and the holidays are approaching!

Quilter Meet and Greet with Victoriana Quilter

I'd like to start out, by thanking Benita for inviting me to join in, on her
"Meet and Greet".
As online bloggers, we love finding new friends with like interests.
There is just so many times I can share my excitement about a new project
with my hubby, who really doesn't care one bit about them!
Anyone else feel my pain?
LOL!!

My name is Joan and I'm the head of the herd, at "MooseStashQuilting".
You'll find loads of "Moose" running around here.
These boys keep my out of trouble most days.

My blog name is a combination of my love for these guys and my huge piles,
(moose size you could say)
of stash I've accumulated over the years.
It's true, the more you stitch, the bigger your stash grows.
There is absolutely no logic to it, but it happens.
I'm a fusible applique junkie.
While I appreciate the time and talent of needle turn, it's not for me.
I've got too many project in this lifetime to complete.
 "International Sun Bonnet Sue"
was completed in 2013 and was my first big undertaking in fusible applique.
It is done in the "Quilt As You Go" method.
You can see much more of this quilt with closeups up each block
She's my most popular pin on "Pinterest".
I do love a good stash buster. It's a great way for me to clean out those bits and pieces that I just can't "Bear" to throw away. I usually do one "biggie" a year,
just to keep control of things.
The bear quilt wasn't really a stash buster, but there was some intense piecing involved, and I love it!
I'm a blog hop-aholic...a big ole hop-head
Nothing inspires me more than getting a theme and digging thru my pile of patterns
and stash, to find the perfect project.
It's really what keeps me stitching every day.
Oh, and the friends I have made...well, they are just icing on the cake!
I'm a part of the designs team for the "Sew Incredibly Crazy" free BOM's.
There are 4 talented designers and myself...the one who doesn't get the EQ program
and would much rather draw out her pattern by hand than take the time to learn anything!
What can I say...I'm honest!
Oh...and I've got a little secret...next month is my block.
I'm really excited about it...you won't want to miss it.
;-)
My favorite part of this crazy quilting hobby, is being an
The spoil us with their beautiful fabrics, and challenge us with monthly themes. It's a great way to show off our projects and share their new lines of fabric.
The inspiration is over the top, with this talented group of Ambassadors.
I am also a Halloween A-Holic!
Gheez, my vises are stacking up here, aren't they?
I have to wrap this up, with my "all time" favorite project...
...a real peek inside of my crazy sense of humor!
What can I say...other than 2013 was the year that really set me on my road.

My goal is to inspire and entertain you,
down this crazy quilting road, we all love to travel.
Be sure to visit Victorian Quilt Designs
There are more "fabulous" bloggers to meet!
And she has a give away you won't want to miss.

You can find me on Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram with the links on my side bar.

Now, tell me a little something about yourself!
